Our Story
Cardinal Hills Homestead is a five acre farm nestled in the rolling hills of east central Ohio. Founded in 2014 by husband and wife Zane and Molly, the homestead began with a simple goal: build something sustainable, humane, and rooted in tradition.
What started as a small piece of land with just a tiny house and an 1800's barn, has grown into a working farm centered on heritage livestock and heirloom crops. Every addition to the farm is intentional. If it lives here or grows here, it needs to contribute to resilience, stewardship, and long term sustainability.
We specialize in heritage breeds because they were developed for hardiness, longevity, and real-world productivity rather than industrial uniformity. These animals are part of living agricultural history. They thrive on pasture, adapt to regional climates, and support biodiversity in a way modern commercial lines often cannot.
The same philosophy guides our garden. We grow heirloom varieties that can be saved, replanted, and adapted to our specific land. Many of these crops carry stories that stretch back generations. They are chosen not just for flavor, but for storage capability, seed stability, and practical value.
We believe in responsible breeding practices, access to pasture or forestry, and transparency about how our animals are raised. We prioritize space, species-appropriate management, and thoughtful selection to preserve the traits that make heritage breeds worth protecting. In the garden, we focus on soil health, seed saving, and crops that reduce outside inputs. Native plants, restorative or companion strains, and long-storing varieties are foundational to how we plan each growing season.
Cardinal Hills Homestead is also a place of education and continuity. Whether we are raising livestock, harvesting heirlooms, curing, cooking, or crafting, we see ourselves as caretakers of something larger than a single season. This land feeds our family, supports conservation of rare genetics, and connects us to older agricultural traditions that still matter.
We are grateful to steward these five acres in the Ohio hills and to share a small piece of that work with you.
Welcome to Cardinal Hills Homestead.
